My name is Tommaso Palumbo and I am the Italian psychologist who
has created Integrated Person Care and Peaceflow.
I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress
and a former Director of the National Centre for Eating Disorders (UK).
I have a special interest in self-care, stress and relationships and I have
carried out research into domestic violence and abuse contributing a
chapter, co-written with Dr Scott Borrelli, to the volume entitled
'International Perspectives on Family Violence and Abuse' .This book
has been edited by Prof. Malley-Morrisson of Boston University and
has been published in the United States by Lawrence Erlbaum Associates,
in June 2004.
I have been seeing people in distress since the summer of 1991,
and, during the course of the first nine years, I have employed
different approaches to help them overcome their issues: from
hypnosis to Jungian analysis, and from humanistic counselling
to cognitive-behaviour therapies (i.e. CBT, REBT, Multimodal).
The application of the above models did not allow me to embrace
the whole person, though. It was easy to identify archetypes,
symptoms, thoughts patterns and behaviours, but I could as easily
lose touch with the very entities who were originating them: the
real persons sitting in front of me! That's why, in January 2000,
I created Integrated Person Care (IPC).
I have always believed that we are a unity of mindbodyspirit and
have personally experienced the benefits of practices like yoga,
tai chi, reiki and shiatsu. So, it was comforting to read how, back
in 2004, world-famous psychiatrists like David Servan-Schreiber
and Bessel van der Kolk, started talking and writing openly about
the value and usefulness of bodywork.
It was then that I decided to create a new practice which would
embrace the whole person by integrating gentle body movement
with breathing, visualisation and meditation.
This is how Peaceflow comes about. Since May 2005, its daily
practice has given me, and the graduates of my programme ,
peace and joy.
I would love to have the opportunity to share this marvellous
experience with you.
Look forward to hearing from you soon!
Peace and love,
Tommaso
